Coin Ping Test Frequencies
When you tap a coin it rings at several resonant frequencies at once. This table lists three of them for each of the 40 coins Pingcoin supports: c0d2, c0d3 and c0d4. These are free-vibration modes of the coin disc with 2, 3 and 4 nodal diameters and 0 nodal circles.
Each frequency depends on the coin’s dimensions, density and elasticity, so a coin made of the wrong metal or to the wrong size rings differently. A match is evidence, not a guarantee. Real coins also vary slightly by year, wear and how they are measured, so expect readings close to these values rather than identical. For a full walkthrough see the silver coin ping test and gold coin ping test guides.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a coin ping test frequency?
When you tap a coin it rings at a few distinct resonant frequencies, one for each way it can vibrate. Pingcoin uses three of them: c0d2, c0d3 and c0d4, the modes with 2, 3 and 4 nodal diameters and no nodal circles. Because they depend on the coin’s dimensions, density and elasticity, a genuine coin of a given type rings close to the reference values in this table.
Why do my measured frequencies differ slightly?
Real coins vary a little between years and mintages, with wear, and with how they are measured: how the coin is supported, where it is tapped, and the microphone and room all have a small effect. Expect your readings to land near, not exactly on, the reference values. A close match is good evidence of authenticity, not a guarantee, so combine it with weight, dimension and visual checks.
Measure Your Coin’s Frequencies
The Pingcoin app records your coin’s ping, measures c0d2, c0d3 and c0d4, and compares them with these reference values in seconds. Works offline, no expensive equipment needed.
